At nVent, being a good steward of the environment is an integral part of our operations. One of our 2030 social responsibility Planet goals is to achieve a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gasses. We recently took an important step towards achieving this goal.
Beginning in early March, our nVent Enclosures manufacturing facility in Anoka, Minnesota, U.S., began drawing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. The renewable energy powering the facility comes from a mix of wind, biomass, solar and hydroelectric sources.
Utilizing these renewable energy sources is expected to offset more than 18,000 metric tons of CO2 per year. This greenhouse gas reduction is equivalent to the impact of removing 3,915 vehicles from the road for a year, or the carbon sequestered by 297,634 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
Because the Anoka facility is one of our largest manufacturing facilities and all of its electricity is now generated by renewable sources, we project that this transition alone will produce a reduction in our total carbon footprint for 2021 of approximately 10%.
“At nVent, we are accountable for our impact on the environment, and we are always looking for ways to contribute to protect our natural resources and provide value to the communities where we live and work,” said Enclosures President Joe Ruzynski. “I applaud our team’s efforts to drive continuous improvement in our operations, and I look forward to seeing more environmental wins like this across nVent.”
As we work to meet our 2030 Planet goals, we will continue to engage our employees in finding and executing smart conservation measures that reduce our environmental impact. Congratulations to the Anoka team, and we are excited to see what comes next!
